Science and research have suffered greatly as a result of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. At the same time, they play a key role in Ukraine’s resilience and reconstruction - as well as in its path toward the European Union. Under the motto “Science. Partnership. Future,” the Science Summit NRW-Ukraine provides a forum to strengthen scientific ties between North Rhine-Westphalia and Ukraine.
How can universities and scientific collaborations contribute to Ukraine’s reconstruction?
The Science Summit NRW-Ukraine will take place on December 1, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. in the Erich Brost Pavilion at the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in Essen. Participation is free of charge. Since the number of seats is limited, advance registration is required. The registration deadline is November 15, 2026. The event is organized by the University Alliance Ruhr and supported by the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia.
The goal of the conference is to connect stakeholders from both countries, highlight existing collaborations, and foster new partnerships. A particular focus will be on the activities of the University Alliance Ruhr as well as the regional partnership between North Rhine-Westphalia and the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.
The Science Summit brings together representatives from universities, academia, politics, business, and non-university research institutions. The focus is on the question of how universities and scientific collaborations can contribute to Ukraine’s reconstruction and how scientific cooperation between North Rhine-Westphalia and Ukraine can be further developed in the long term.
Following the conference program, a reception featuring an accompanying project exhibition will provide an opportunity for discussion and networking.
