At the kickoff meeting, Katharina Josefine Walgenbach (University of Hamburg) will give an introductory presentation on the topic “Diversity in Late Modernity. Consequences, Perspectives, and Challenges for Diversity Research.” Following this, panelists representing all of the Research Community’s key research areas will discuss current arenas and conditions in diversity research. In the afternoon, interested participants are invited to attend workshops in the five research fields:
• Diversity and Participation in a Society of Migration
• Diversity and Health
• Diversity and Critiques of Discrimination in (Higher) Education
• Diversity and Academic Freedom
• Languages and Literatures of Diversity
Goals of the Research Community
In a region characterized by superdiversity and in a social context where the recognition of diversity is at stake, the Research Community brings together and connects research perspectives on social, cultural, and institutional forms of diversity, as well as their significance for participation, recognition, and justice in a society of migration. It develops innovative approaches for the theoretical, empirical, and methodological advancement of diversity research and integrates diverse perspectives on diversity. The Research Community initiates innovative research networks and thereby contributes to the promotion of democratic and socially just societies.
