This year's conference was organized by the Research Center Future Energy Materials and Systems (RC FEMS) and marked the center's debut on the scientific stage. The center enables interdisciplinary research teams to investigate the fundamental properties and relevant processes involved in the production and use of complex materials, combining basic research with application-oriented work.
National and international scientists, including the seven newly appointed RC FEMS professors, provided comprehensive insights into their current research throughout the day. A special focus was placed on the following areas:
- Materials and Electrochemistry
- Theory and Machine Learning for Materials for Energy
- Quantum Materials and their Relevance for Energy
- Materials Design, Syntheses and Characterization
A poster session provided early-career researchers with the opportunity to present their work and engage in scientific exchange. In addition, partner institutions such as the Center for Fuel Cell Technology (ZBT), the Interdisciplinary Center for Analytics on the Nanoscale (ICAN), and Mat4Hy showcased their work at information booths.

The RC FEMS is part of the Research Alliance Ruhr. Since 2022, the University Alliance Ruhr has been expanding its top-level research in the centers and the college under the umbrella of the Research Alliance Ruhr.
Around 130 participants took part in the 7th MCIC, using the opportunity to network, explore new research approaches, and develop ideas for future collaborations.
