Eight students from the USA are completing their Ruhr Fellowship at the UA Ruhr universities and gaining practical experience in companies in the region.
The Ruhr region remains a top address for prospective academics from American universities. Eight students from the University of Cincinnati, Lehigh University and the University of California, Berkeley are currently Ruhr Fellows at the three universities of the University Alliance Ruhr.

The eight US students come from the fields of engineering and environmental sciences, business and technology. They have been Ruhr Fellows at the universities of Bochum, Dortmund and Duisburg-Essen since the beginning of June. The University Alliance Ruhr program begins with a two-week introduction including a crash course in German, a visit to the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex and various cultural events. They then complete an eight-week internship in various companies in the region. It offers them a comprehensive insight into academic, cultural and professional life in the Ruhr region.

"Two of the Ruhr Fellows have found their internship at the University of Duisburg-Essen with Professor Hannes Rothe, who holds the Chair of Information Systems and Sustainable Supply Chain Management. They are researching Business Administration and Business Economics & Information Systems," says Dr. Tomasz Waliczko, Aurora Project Manager at the University of Duisburg-Essen. Three US students have opted for internships at TU Dortmund University. They are hosted by Junior Professor of Entrepreneurship Daniela Giménez Jiménez, the Institute of Forming Technology and Lightweight Construction and the Institute of Energy Systems, Energy Efficiency and Energy Economics. As in previous years, companies in the region offer internships. Three fellows in the current cohort have decided to gain practical experience at the Emschergenossenschaft/Lippeverband and the Masterflex Group and expand their networks there.

Petra Günther, Head of the International Office at the University of Duisburg-Essen, is also delighted with the visit: "Welcoming international students is one of my favorite things to do. It makes it clear what our work is all about: connecting students and researchers across borders."
